Shared Money: Spaces, Reimbursements, and Beneficiaries

Manage family finances, shared household expenses, group trips, and track money you owe or are owed.

Smart Pocket separates personal money from shared group finances. Use Spaces for shared households or trips, track Reimbursements, and settle balances with Beneficiaries.

What this feature helps you do

  • Spaces (Family & Groups): Create separate financial environments (e.g., "Family Home", "Flat 204 Shared", "EuroTrip 2026") to keep group expenses distinct from your personal money.

  • Beneficiaries / People: Keep a directory of friends, family members, or colleagues connected to your transactions.

  • Reimbursements: Record money you paid on behalf of someone else (like company expenses or shared meals) so you don't forget to claim it back.

  • Settlements: Easily record repayments to bring outstanding balances back to zero.

How to use Shared Money features

Creating a Space:

  1. Click Spaces in the sidebar.

  2. Tap + Create Space and enter a name (e.g., "Apartment Shared Expenses").

  3. Switch into this Space to log shared bills, view group budgets, and manage collective spending.

Logging a Reimbursement:

  1. When adding a transaction in Money Out, toggle Mark as Reimbursement.

  2. Select the person/beneficiary who owes you the money (or create a new contact).

  3. Save the transaction. The amount is added to your Money Owed to You dashboard widget.

Recording a Settlement:

  1. Go to Beneficiaries / People or check the Money You Owe / Money Owed to You card on your dashboard.

  2. Select the person and tap Settle Balance.

  3. Enter the repayment amount and the account used, then tap Confirm Settlement.

Practical Examples

  • Office equipment purchase: You buy an office printer for AED 650 with your personal card. You record the expense and mark it as a Reimbursement under Company. Your dashboard reminds you that AED 650 is owed to you until the company reimburses you.

  • Sharing apartment rent: You and your flatmate share utility bills. You create a Space called "Flat 501", where you both record shared DEWA and Wi-Fi payments and settle differences monthly.

Helpful Tips

  • No more lost claims: Never forget work or friend expenses again by logging reimbursements immediately at the cash counter.

  • Keep personal separate: When inside a Space, personal accounts and private transactions remain hidden from group members.
